Sinbad the Sailor and other stories.
Some of the best loved tales are the myths and legends of Sinbad the Sailor.
The timeless tales of Sinbad, Thor, Odin and others are full of adventure, bravery, luck and the fact that actions have consequences.
We have included some less well known internationally, but very well known in the culture of their origin stories such as Cuchulain of Ulster
and Lakshmi of India. These classic tales can be inaccessible as the language is old fashioned and hard to read so these are our own versions
of these stories in an easier to read format.
As with all our children's books these are designed to be a 5 minute story for you to read aloud, but are also simple enough for your
children to read themselves.
Each story had a rhyme about the main character to add interest such as
I'M SINBAD THE SAILOR MAN,
IT'S BOLD AND BRAVE I AM,
I NEVER SHOW FEAR,
WHEN DANGER IS NEAR,
I'M SINBAD THE SAILOR MAN.
This adds interest and helps the children connect with the story. They can join in. Do this where you come across the block capitals.
There are also excellent language development ideas in the stories and important words come at the end of the chapter to talk about and explain.
Children love words that are grand and often find it easy to recognise them and learn their meaning. This helps both their oral and written English
immensely and it's fun. Words such as ruse, gloat, perish, tyrant are great to repeat to grandparents!
